Leaders discuss Democrats’ disregard for citizens’ initiatives, how Republicans are fighting failed policies

House and Senate Republican leaders told reporters how they are working to fix majority party policies that have made Washington unaffordable and unsafe โ€” and how they are fighting proposals Democrats have put forward this legislative session that would make conditions worse for most Washingtonians.

Legislators answered questions about the majority party’s refusal to give public hearings to six citizens’ initiatives to the Legislature and recent failures at the Department of Children, Youth and Families. Other topics discussed included worker protections, gas taxes, transportation and tolls, the Climate Commitment Act, and a proposal by Rep. Chris Corry to help local governments raise revenue without increasing property taxes.

Participants included House Republican Leader Drew Stokesbary, Corry, Senate Republican Leader John Braun and Sen. Keith Wagoner.
