Rep. Chris Corry with KIT’s Lance Tormey discuss unnecessary, unreasonable, and unfair Democrat property and B&O tax increase proposals,

Rep. Chris Corry, R-Yakima, joins KIT hosts Lance Tormey, Dave Ettl, and Brian Stephanson for a session update. They discuss key legislative developments including a small victory when a proposed property tax increase was scrapped, but Corry remains concerned about changes to the school levy cap. He explained that districts in wealthier areas like Puget Sound can raise funds with minimal impact, while rural districts like Yakima would face significantly higher property tax rates to generate the same revenue—creating a major disparity.

Corry also pushed back on a proposed $12 billion tax package from Democrats, criticizing it as excessive and disputing claims that federal issues are to blame. He emphasized that reckless budgeting has been a problem in Olympia for years. Additionally, he raised alarms about a record-setting $5 billion B&O tax increase on businesses, warning that so-called “temporary” taxes rarely go away.

With just days left in the legislative session, Corry expressed concern about a potential special session due to internal disagreements and lack of alignment with the governor. Despite the challenges, he reaffirmed his commitment to representing the interests of Yakima and the 15th District.
